Follow That Cartoon (Part 1)

I’m starting a new series of entries today that I’m really excited about. I’ve decided to follow a cartoon from it’s inception, hopefully all the way through the sale.

So, here’s where ti all begins:

The cartoon we’re going to follow is the top one. It seems a little weird, but I like it.

(In case you can’t read it, here it is: Car mechanic holding baby w/ rattle to person – “I think I found what was causing that rattle.”)

I saw my baby daughter’s rattle on the counter and this one just sort of came to me.

This is how I always start. I just free associate for a bit and see what comes out. Then I jot it down on a piece of paper and toss it in a box to be drawn later.

I’ll write again when I do the sketch…

  1. Im thinking of becoming a cartoonist.Do you have any advice and is it worth it finantialy worth it.

  2. Hi Patt,

I'll be posting a blog with concrete advice (none of that mamby pamby "don' give up" junk) for budding gag cartoonists soon.

As far as finances go, I'm able to make a living at it, but I'll probably never be rich.
