Reuben on Wry, Please

The NCS had its big Reuben awards this weekend. There’s always a lot of press about Cartoonist of the Year (well, not a lot, but that’s another blog), but, being a gag cartoonist myself, I’m always more excited about the gag category.

And this year I’m excited for New Yorker cartoonist, Robert Weber.

Certainly Sam Gross and Glenn McCoy are no slouches either, but Weber’s style really makes me feel like a fraud, hence, he’s a total badass.

So, since no other blogs will, and because gag cartoonists are usually considered the red-headed step-children of the cartooning community…

CONGRATUALTIONS, ROBERT WEBER!!!

OK, I know…

I know… I promised you a decent entry for Wednesday and you got nothin’!

Well, as you know from reading the past few entries, it’s been a rough couple of weeks here for us at the ol’ Andertoons homestead. But things are resuming some sense of normalcy, so hopefully the blog will get back to a regular schedule again.

I went looking at Bloglines today for the first time in a week or two and found 162 new cartoon related entries alone! Yeesh!

Here are some of my favorites now that I’ve had a chance to plug back in and browse a bit…

Mark Heath shows a bit of Sunday art…

Deja Calvin…

Stop Opus Now!

Well, that’s it for now. A few more days and I’ll have Photoshop installed again and I can start posting graphics once more.

Thanks for hanging in there and being so understanding! Have a great weekend!

My Laptop, Jury Duty & Lots Of Vomit

I know I promised a blog entry today, and, to be fair, I’m getting this in just under the wire, but I do apologize for the lateness.

I’d also like to apologize for the lack of entries lately, but once you read this you’ll understand.

OK, first off, two Thursdays ago my Toshiba laptop took another jump off the ol’ Windows cliff. I had to take it to the shop and get the hard drive ripped out and all of my data rescued.

This, of course, right before a weekend trip out of town. We saw a lot of old friends and went to a wedding, so the trip actually kept my mind off computer problems.

When we returned, I finally made the switch to a nice Apple PowerBook G4 with all the trimmings. It’s a sweet ride to be sure, but learning/outfitting a computer from the ground up again eats up a lot of time.

Then I had jury duty downtown. Thankfully I talked my way out of a lengthy trial, but still, it ate up an entire day.

But here’s the worst stuff… My son was hospitalized for 2 days with something called the rotavirus. I think he picked it up at library playtime. Anyway, it caused a bout of vomiting that caused us to use every piece of bedding he has twice in the same night. The next day he got worse (if you can believe it) and we had to take him into the pediatric emergency room.

Anyway, we ended up living at the hospital for the weekend and some of today, but he’s on the mend and tearing around again like the little guy I know and love.

Sorry if this post is a little on the weak side, but I’m just in no condition to really edit and craft something nice. So, thanks for hanging in there with me. I’m going to get something nice up for Wednesday. See you then…

Up And Running (Sort Of…)

Wow, what a week!

For those of you just tuning in, my laptop went kablooey again last week (Thursday to be exact).

After a weekend in the shop, I got my data back (largely) and decided to buy an Apple, and Bill Gates has only himself to blame.

I mean, how many times do I have to completely recreate my entire system because of some stupid open port?! I had virus protection, spy sweepers and fix-it programs up the wazoo! (My wazoo is feeling better now, by the way.)

So, a few grand later, I have a beautiful, fun, and best of all, stable, PowerBook G4 and I’m loving it so far.

Oh sure, there’s a bit of a learning curve here, but in a few more weeks I should have this baby purring.

Anyway, sorry about the lack of blogging this week. I also had jury duty and a host of other responsibilities that, when you throw rebuilding a computer on top of them, just made the blog impossible.

Tune in on Monday and I’ll getcha back up to speed…
