I ran across a poster for this at Wizard World Chicago, and I gotta say, I’m intrigued.
This from the Marvel site:
World Fantasy Award-winning writer Stephen King, long acknowledged as the master of modern horror, and Marvel Comics join forces this spring to launch a ground-breaking new comic book series adapted from King’s magnum opus, The Dark Tower.
The comic series will mark the first time Stephen King has produced original content for an ongoing comic book project. The series will expand the saga of King’s epic hero, Roland Deschain, whose quest to save the Dark Tower is captured in seven best-selling novels published over the course of twenty-five years. King’s unparalleled storytelling power will inform new stories that delve into the life and times of the young Roland, revealing the trials and conflicts that lead to the burden of destiny he must assume as a man, the last Gunslinger from a world that has moved on. The comics will work in conjunction with the novels, further supplementing and defining the saga’s mythology under the direction of the acclaimed author himself.
I’m a big fan of King’s Dark Tower stuff, although I’ve found it hard to find the time to read the last three or so. I’m really curious to see how this pans out.

I have never read any Stephen King fiction because I have never cared for horror. I did read his book "about" writing … catchily titled: "On Writing" and found it to be the best I've ever read on the subject. Are the "Dark Tower" books a sterling example of his horror genre or are they compelling in some other way?
Hi again!
I think the Dark Tower stuff seems more like literature than horror to me. Honestly, it's very very good. Give it a shot!
hmph. Your answer seems a bit lateral to me, but I'll peek into the first one and see what happens!
LOL! Yeah, that wasn't a great explanation…
It's kinda a surreal western. Neat stuff, and it never struck me as the standard "look out for the clown in the closet!" type of horror I've read elsewhere.
It seems thoughtfully put together, and it's an engrossing read.
Dang, now I gotta find time to get back into it…
Ah. Better answer. I make a weekly sojourn to the library, so will check out some Dark Tower. Thanks! Maybe Mr. King and I can be friends after all.
No problem! Enjoy!
Wow, As a big fan of the dark tower series I found this to be quite interesting. That may be a bad thing though since I used to collect comics as a kid, I am not sure opening up that can of worms again is such a good idea. Anyways, this is my first time visiting your site(not sure how I got here via 'the bemusedmuse blog I think?). Anywhooo, I am kind of interested in doing a cartoon or two of my own for my blog and have NO clue where to start. Are there any kind of programs for very VERY new(and truth be told quite untalented) people like me that you could suggest? Great site, I look forward to reading some more.

Hey there!
Programs to ease cartooning? Hmm… Honestly, I have no idea.
You might go the "Get Your War On" route and use clip art?
