Gag Written

My blog a few days ago about gag writing seemed to really get people talking.

Neal Quigley noted it here and here, EffingComics notied it here, and a lot of good folks emailed, phoned and commented to me about it.

Honestly, I thought it was sort of an easy blog, but turns out it’s a subject not many people talk about.

Not to sound like an after-school TV special, but if you’d like to read more on this subject, check out The Cartoonist’s Muse. I’ve mentioned it here before, but it’s so good I’m gonna keep mentioning it until everyone gets a copy.

Anyway, glad everyone liked that post so much.

  1. Thanks for the mention. I've ordered my copy of "The Cartoonists Muse." I look forward to reading it.

It really is a shame that more cartoonists (or creative thinkers in general) don't publish their thoughts like you have. It may seem like a simple enough exercise, but a lot of people learn best from specific examples. I'm glad you got that ball rolling.

I hope you don't mind me plugging myself a little here as well, but I wanted to mention that I will be running a few more articles in my own "brainstorming ideas" series and I'd love to hear feedback from anyone interested in the topic.

  2. I recently ordered a copy of "The Caroonist's Muse", immediately after reading the first two chapters I had some good ideas. not that I didn't have them before I ordered the book, but it sure helped my creative spark. I being a cartoonists 100% endorse this book, it's awesome! for those of you who are still having a hard time finding it you can order it through Barnes and noble.com in their authorized dealer section. Good Luck!

  3. You know what really sucks? I went on Amazon to go get it but decided I'd get a couple more books to get that discounted shipping. So I go searching through and find a couple that I'd like and go to check out and in my shopping cart it says that the Cartoonist's Muse isn't available and they don't know when it will become available again. I could get it used of someone but… I have a tick about that.

Bah… I'll see if the Comic Shop has it.
