Good News (Worth The Wait…)

OK, so I haven’t exactly been the paragon of blog update virtue as of late, but this time I have a really good reason. A couple, actually…

The Anderson family is expecting again! (Feel free to dance vicariously. I’ll wait…)

Yep, as my college roommate put it, I got another one past the goalie! We’re thrilled, and as a result, we’re trying to sell our starter home and find something bigger for the kids to destroy. (I told you I was busy.)

Our families and we have been getting the house ready to sell at a breakneck pace. Painting, planting, cleaning… It’s been like an Amish barn raising!

Check it out…

Not bad, eh?

Anyway, I thought you deserved an explanation. I should be more or less back into a normal schedule this week. Thanks for hanging in there!

People With No Lives Open Hong Kong Disneyland

This from a Disney press release regarding the new Hong Kong Disneyland’s opening:

Derrick Johnson was so elated when he beat thousands of people to become the second person to charge into the brand new Hong Kong Disneyland that he dropped to his knees, raised his arms and bowed to worship the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

O… K…

Robert Sher, from New York City, and Thomas Taffinder, from Orlando, Calif., came armed with sophisticated audio visual gear and a mental map of the park memorized from a virtual Internet tour.

I can just see these two quizzing each other… “OK, Tom, is Space Mountain east or northeast of the Software Pirates of the Caribbean?”

What keeps these grown-ups hooked on to the cartoon characters? “They keep on reinventing different things, unlike Universal or Six Flags,” said Sher. “The idea of Disney doing another foreign country, with the Chinese Communist government – going for business like that is just amazing.”

Yeah, EuroDisney turned out great! (Think EuroKrustyLand…)

Dougie Robertson, a 35-year-old businessman from Edinburgh, Scotland, said his favorite thing about Disney was the cheerful workers, or “cast members” in Disney lingo. “The cast members make people smile. It takes people back to their childhood. Smiling is a big thing,” he said. “I believe in the magic.”

Pretty much what I’d expect from a grown man who continues to call himself “Dougie.”

No. 2’s Are #1

I love pencils!

Before I was a full-time cartoonist, my inky cubicled coworkers would mock my Ticonderogan tendencies, but I continue to grip graphite to this day.

I love the feel of it rubbing against the paper. I love the hexagonical shape in my fingers. And I love the warm gray against the bright white surface.

My absolute favorite pencil? The American Natural. The smooth unfinished body and firm but yielding graphite has sketched untold thousands of my cartoons.

So, you can imagine my joy when Drawn! pointed out the relatively young Pencil Revolution! Go check it out, it’s fascinating.
