For the past few years I’ve been posting scans of old calendars where the dates line up with the current year, and 2017 is maybe my favorite so far: behold the 1978 Amazing Spider-Man calendar!
Each page has been lovingly scanned in and arranged to function as a computer desktop wallpaper (2560 x 1440) so you can enjoy them all year long. And there’s some unbelievable art here from Jack Kirby, John Romita, John Buscema and Gene Colan to name just a few.
Also this year I’ve included the covers, inside covers, and extra stuff that people generally ask me for.

I love comics and I love Valentine’s Day, so over the years I’ve collected a lot of different superhero valentines. Here are just a few of my very favorites:
Love that 1966 Batmobile! (And that hand lettering!)
I dunno what it is exactly that Batman has against a giant red heart, but I trust that he know what he’s doing. He is Batman after all.

OK, these are actually kind of amazing. The idea was to punch out the various parts, put them together, and make 3D action valentines. I tried a few out and they’re challenging, but so rewarding. Here’s some more…

People simply could not get enough Batman back in the 60’s. Even if they’re weird and pretty poorly drawn. And have the answers upside-down on the bottom.
Robin, you’re making me… uncomfortable. Also, that’s a rope, not a trapeze.
OK, you’ve got me on this one. Batman stabbing a dragon/snake with a heart to demonstrate his feelings?! Bad. But that “THUNK!” sound is just awful!

OK, technically these are more general romance cards than true Valentine’s Day cards, but I couldn’t resist sharing these.

I love Christmas, and I love Spider-Man. So when I saw this Spider-Man’s Christmas coloring book on eBay, I knew I had to get it and share it.
Written by Suzanne Weyn, drawn by Jim Mooney & John Tartaglione, and printed in 1984, this wonderfully weird Christmas coloring book lets you color scenes like Peter Parker walking…
Peter Parker at work…
and Peter Parker shopping.
But then things start to get interesting as Peter gets his foot stepped on…
gets knocked down by an old lady…
and gets the holiday blues.
OK, we’re already 10 pages in, not much has happened, and we’ve ignored the fact that Peter’s Spidey-Sense would have totally negated the toe stomp and the cab grab, but don’t worry – Aunt May to the rescue!
And things start to heat up. Or do they?
Turns out that landlord is also conveniently Spider-Man’s arch enemy!
Now, 14 pages into this 32-page coloring book we finally get some Spider-Man.
I don’t want to ruin the rest of the story for you, but it includes Aunt May apparently sprinting and beating Spider-Man to the Green Goblin’s apartment…
an army of Goblin elf robots…
and Spider-Man giving the Goblin the ol’ Gwen Stacy treatment.
