Other Cartoon Blogs You Should Be Reading #1

This week I’m gonna take the focus off of me and either remind you of, or introduce you to some other great cartoon blogs.

Today’s pick?  Mike Lynch Cartoons!

Mike WebRegular readers will recognize ol’ Lynchy McLynch (as he likes, nay, demands, to be called) from his many comments (and awkward come ons), but if you aren’t reading his blog you’re really missing out.

Mike has some of the best insights into gag cartooning around, and, except for the occasional Star Trek foray, he pretty much stays on topic (unlike another cartoonist you’re reading right now.  Seriously, I blogged about an orange stool last week.  What the hell?!).

And if you wanna see lots and lot of pics of cartoonists, Mike’s blog is the place!

Also, go read his cartoons.  He’s really really really funny!

I could continue raving about Mike, but I still want someone reading my blog occasionally, so that’s enough.

Another great cartoon blog tomorrow!

“It’s Hard to Comb a Grass Toupee: A Spot the Frog Collection” – Review

Spot-1Disclaimer – Mark Heath is a good friend and I’m going to give this book a great review because it’s great. So there.

It’s Hard to Comb a Grass Toupee is my son’s favorite book right now. He asks to go get it from my office every day and have it read to him over and over. When you consider the boy has memorized the complete Seuss canon, and is well into Pooh, this is no small compliment.

His favorite so far is the strip where Kiri eats the kleenex from the snow. He literally giggles himself off the couch.

OK, so a soon-to-be four-year-old loves it, but I love it too, And so does the Mrs.. In fact it’s pretty much the hot book throughout the house right now. And if my one-year-old daughter could chew on it, I think she would.

Listen, Mark’s latest is filled with the laugh out loud, goofy, and gently sweet cartoons that you just don’t see often enough. And the art is just beautiful. Also, did I mention every cartoon is in full color?!

Go buy this right now and keep it hidden from the family until you’re done with it. You’ll thank me!

Anonymous Celebrity (Kinda Sort Of)

I was reading Tom Richmond’s blog about a local mag’s cover story on him, and this popped out at me:

The story did serve one useful purpose. Several of our neighbors who we did not know well now know what I do for a living… apparently I was previously believed to be a lawyer.

I’ve often thought/hoped that my neighbors are wondering “I dunno, he’s home all the time; what do you think he does?!”

I have to admit, I love it when people ask what I do, because, let’s face it, I have a really freakin’ cool job.

The thing I love even a little bit more is when I get something like this: “So you like do a comic for the local paper or something?”

And then I get to play what my wife calls the credibility card (I call it the badass card) and say “actually, I do a lot of work for magazines like Reader’s Digest, Good Housekeeping… I think I’m in the current Forbes. That sort of thing.”

I know, pride goeth before a fall and all that, but it’s fun watching them have to all of a sudden take me seriously.

Anyway, congrats to Tom on his cover story. Go read his blog; I’m going to go get some dessert.
