Why have I become obsessed with cartoon playing cards? Your guess is as good as mine.
Enjoy this new set over at Flickr.
No signature at all this time, and the art and gags are really pretty good!

These are GREAT. Love the ink work — and those colors are wonderful. Really hard to figure out who the cartoonist is, but some of the swift, slightly dry brush ink lines remind me of Jefferson Machamer, whose strip GAGS AND GALS ran for five years in the 1930s — and he also did about a ton of gag cartoons before and after the war.
I'm not sure it is Machamer doing the drawing — but he was a widely published girly cartoonist, and may have influenced a number of cartoonists. Even today, according to Dan Nadel, Machamer's style influenced Gary Panter. Nadel's book ART OUT OF TIME reprints a number of Machamer's GAGS AND GALS Sunday strips.
I just got an email from a very astute fellow cartoonist who says it's Wenzel. He is right!!!!
Hooray! Who do have to thank for the catch?
oh oh oh…
You're either taking credit, Marco, or showing me your O face… I like taking credit better.
