  1. These are GREAT. Love the ink work — and those colors are wonderful. Really hard to figure out who the cartoonist is, but some of the swift, slightly dry brush ink lines remind me of Jefferson Machamer, whose strip GAGS AND GALS ran for five years in the 1930s — and he also did about a ton of gag cartoons before and after the war.

    I'm not sure it is Machamer doing the drawing — but he was a widely published girly cartoonist, and may have influenced a number of cartoonists. Even today, according to Dan Nadel, Machamer's style influenced Gary Panter. Nadel's book ART OUT OF TIME reprints a number of Machamer's GAGS AND GALS Sunday strips.
