Wimic Widget? Wow!

One of the things I love about my new Mac and its Tiger OS are the Widgets.

For those of you not in the know, there’s this kinda hidden screen of little useful items you can call up at a moment’s notice. Since Tiger came out there’s been a ton of these things created for just about every conceivable purpose. (Right now mine include a system stats ap, a calculator, the latest headlines from the New York Times, and a Magic 8 Ball.)

The new Wimic Widget seems destined to be a favorite as well. It gives you your daily cartoon fix from any number of sources (UComics.com, Comics.com, etc…) and seems to be customizable.

I do have to wonder how the syndicates make money off of this (my own free cartoon feature works on a different premise), but I’m really enjoying it.

For those of you still working in Windows, I pity you. I really do. (Did you see this?)

The Aristocrats/Iron Toon

I really want to see The Aristocrats, in fact it’s #1 in my Netflix queue.

Having grown up with jazz and stand-up comedy as two of my main influences, I’m curious to see how different comedians traverse the joke’s raunchy ‘changes.’

It kind of makes me wish there were something similar in the cartoonist’s world. Not the raunch per se, but…

Sure, there’s the old desert island gag, but the opportunity for real live improvisation still attracts me.

How ’bout some sort of Iron Chef thingy? Someone throws in a few pieces of inspiration and cartoonists have so much time to come up with an original finished cartoon. (Not to self: call Bravo…)

Whatcha think?

It’s Fresh! (Fresh!) Exciiiiiting!

Yes, I’m back. It was nice to take a bit of time off, but I did miss blogging.

In my off-time I’ve been working on various projects in an effort to tie everything down before my wife goes back to teaching and getting her masters, and I go back to raising the boy full-time

One of my projects was getting the blog back in line. Like the new header graphic? I’ve been getting some good messages about it. I took it on my desk in the office and photoshopped it a tad. I’m pretty happy with it, and I think it separates the blog nicely from the main site.

I’ve also reinserted the Bloglines and MyYahoo subscription buttons to help you keep track of what I’m blathering about.

One last thing, since starting the blog I’ve kept pretty well to fairly rigorous self-imposed schedules, and I’m happy it’s garnered me a faithful (and smart, and good-looking, and generally nice) readership. But I’ve just been getting busier and busier in recent months, so I’ve decided to liken my new blogging “schedule” to a recent retiree — still vibrant and a lot to contribute, just not always as regular as I’d like.

So, thanks for hanging in there, and enjoy!
