Cartoons & Poetry

Heard a really interesting story on Weekend America this past weekend.  Two-time US Poet Laureate, Billy Collins, talks about Looney Tunes’ influence on him, and shares some poetry to that effect.

A sample:

Porky

Happy only

when he is gardening alone

far from conversation

and the terrible stammering

far from Petunia, nag and tease

just resting on a hoe

unembarrassed

as he contemplates

the blue background of his flat world —

a Zen pig.

Go check it out!

Last night I watched the Porky Pig cartoon with the two leprechauns…

Wearing of the Grin

Not the greatest of the classic Looney Tunes, but not bad.

After doing some looking around on Google about it I found some interesting stuff, but this Dell comic (#426, Sept/Oct 1952) cover caught my eye instead and it was too much fun not to include today.

Scalawag Leprechaun

Sure and here’s hopin’ ya have ye a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
