Hoest Original

Just picked this up off of Ebay (click for much larger images):

Hoestfront-1

Hoestback-1

I’m such a huge fan of Hoest!

The Lockhorns and especially his Parade stuff pretty much made me want to be a cartoonist.

I love the lines, the shading, the composition.. I just love Hoest.

So, when this original showed up on Ebay, I had to grab it.

Looks like it was purchased for Humorama’s Joker, but I’m having trouble figuring out which numbers are the date of the issue. Any thoughts?

(BTW, I’ve taken Hoest’s address off the back scan for privacy’s sake. Dunno if they still live there, better safe than sorry.)

Original Cartoon Art

Artincartooning

I just picked up an almost perfect copy of The Art of Cartooning (1975). The listing on Amazon mentioned several artists had signed the inside cover, but didn’t give any names. Imagine my surprise to find the following:

Aic1

Aic2

Aic3

Aic4

Aic5

I think the Gahan Wilson is my favorite, but the Ziegler is a close second.

It looks like this book was purchased at some sort of signing on 5/1/76 by Barbara someone.

Anyway, it was already one of my favorite books of/on gag cartoons, and this particular copy now has a special place on my new shelves.
