As excited as I am about my upcoming Complete Calvin, I’m finding myself even more curious about this book.
My wife has talked about teaching with comics for years, and may even have some Calvin in spanish (she’s a bilingual teacher), so I’d love to pick this one up for the both of us.
Anyone out there willing to part with a copy?

Recently a cartoonist bulletin board discussion resurfaced about Scott Kurtz and his plan to give PVP away to newspapers.
When this thing first reared its ugly head a few months ago, I was one of the cartoonists concerned (OK, kinda pissed) about the ramifications of this sort of thing.
My position was this — PVP is a good strip and editors should be paying a good rate for it. I thought Scott was selling (or, more accurately, not selling) himself and the industry short.
Well, some time later, it doesn’t look like this thing has really taken off and some cartoonists are about waist deep in their own schadenfreude. So why aren’t I?
I recently took a beating on the same board for my new free daily cartoon feature. I was accused of destroying markets, incomes, the industry as a whole…
I thought (and think) it’s a good idea, and I’m going to continue trying it out. And I have to assume Scott thought/thinks the same thing for his plan. In fact, I think the “next big cartooning thing” is still out there waiting for some plucky cartoonist to cast aside convention and try something outrageous.
So get to the point you say?

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Dan Piraro has some readers seeing double.
The flap is over a cartoon that…
…showed a male doctor talking to another man, had a text block that had the doctor saying: “Your husband is in the recovery room. You could go back and see him if you like, but our government-sanctioned bigotry forbids it.”
He said his editor at King Features Syndicate… mentioned to him that he’d been getting a lot of complaints from editors about the cartoonist’s left-leaning politics, and that running the cartoon could result in some cancellations.
Piraro said he had changed the text to the following: “She’s going to be just fine — she’s quite a fighter. The anesthesiologist has a black eye and I think she may have cracked my ribs.”
“Not wishing to lose my voice entirely, I thought it was wise to send in a replacement caption for the same picture,” Piraro wrote.
