Corey Pandolph – Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio

This week’s Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio features Corey Pandolph of the comic strip “Barkeater Lake”!

Let’s do this thing…

1) If you were to cast a movie entirely with cartoon characters, what movie would it be and who would star in it?

Escape from Alcatraz. I’d have Calvin play Morris (Clint Eastwood) Opus could be the warden and Krazy
Kat could be one of the guards.

2) You’re a syndicate editor launching a new comic strip. What’s the worst possible title you can think of?

Lung Cancer

3) A light bulb over a cartoon’s head signifies an idea, while a string of random characters denotes swearing. Invent a new cartooning icon and what it means.

How about a license plate that says “outta state” on it…it would be a symbol for “idiot”

Thanks a bunch Corey, but unfortunately we’re “outta time”! Make sure you check out Corey’s “Barkeater Lake” and his freelance site!

Tune in next week for Bill Griffith’s zippy answers!

Dave Kellett – Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio

Well, it’s Monday. And Monday means a brand new Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio!

This week Dave Kellett of Sheldon graces us with his answers! Here goes…

1) If you were to cast a movie entirely with cartoon characters, what movie would it be and who would star in it?

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, casted by the Family Circus gang. I just want to hear Billy scream “KHaaaaaAAAaaaan!”

2) You’re a syndicate editor launching a new comic strip. What’s the worst possible title you can think of?

Lil’ Stalin & Lil’ Trotsky

3) A light bulb over a cartoon’s head signifies an idea, while a string of random characters denotes swearing. Invent a new cartooning icon and what it means.

Using the pound symbol when someone really gets clobbered. #!

Thanks Dave! Or should I say DaaaaaAAAAaaaaaAVVVvvve!!!

Make sure you check out his wonderful strip, Sheldon!

Y’all come back Monday, y’hear!

Kyle Miller – Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio

Welcome back to another installment of Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio!

This week’s cartoonist is Kyle Miller of Working Daze!

Here goes…

1) If you were to cast a movie entirely with cartoon characters, what movie would it be and who would star in it?

I know it’s blasphemous, but when I was in school, I had a friend who thought it would be the funniest thing to do a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar with Muppets. Kind of tells you the sort of people I hung out with. I know I wouldn’t want to do Star Wars or another such popular film – they’ve been done to death already. Maybe it would be fun to see Spiderman done with the cast of U.S. Acres.

2) You’re a syndicate editor launching a new comic strip. What’s the worst possible title you can think of?

“The art is bad and the jokes are offensive, but we saved a bundle on this title.”

3) A light bulb over a cartoon’s head signifies an idea, while a string of random characters denotes swearing. Invent a new cartooning icon and what it means.

One icon? I want an entire set of hieroglyphics! Some of John’s gags get so verbose that there’s no room for the characters! Just once, it would be great to reduce 3 to 5 lines of text to a single symbol. Then again, better not. Then folks would expect me to pay more attention to the backgrounds.

Thanks a bunch Kyle! Make sure you check out Working Daze, and we’ll see you again next week!

Frank Page – Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio

It’s that time again! This week’s contestant is Bob the Squirrel‘s Frank Page!

1) If you were to cast a movie entirely with cartoon characters, what movie would it be and who would star in it?

If I were to cast a movie entirely with cartoon characters it would definitely be Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” (a personal obsession of mine which I have to watch at least once a month whether I need to or not). The main characters would be re-cast as follows:

Robert De Niro (Jimmy Conway) – Yosemite Sam (because he has a dark side)

Ray Liotta (Henry Hill) – Aquaman (because he just needs a meaty part – I mean most bad stuff happens on land )

Joe Pesci (Tommy DeVito) – Hong Kong Fuey (just because he’s got that short thing going for him)

Lorraine Bracco (Karen Hill) – Betty Rubble (because she had me at hello)

Paul Sorvino (Paul Cicero) – Homer Simpson (I don’t care what anyone says – I think Homer has some Italian in him)

2) You’re a syndicate editor launching a new comic strip. What’s the worst possible title you can think of?

The WORST possible title I can think of is not rated PG-13 – but if I had to give an answer I would say: “I DRAW HORSIES”

3) A light bulb over a cartoon’s head signifies an idea, while a string of random characters denotes swearing. Invent a new cartooning icon and what it means.

I would draw George W. Bush’s head in a thought cloud – placed over a cartoon characters’s head it would signify that the character has absolutely no idea what he/she is talking about OR that the character is essentially clueless.

Thanks a bunch to cartoonist Frank Page for his wonderful responses! Now I can’t stop thinking of Hong Kong Fuey saying “Funny how?!”

Check out Bob the Squirrel! It also runs daily at uComics.com! Great stuff! Don’t miss it!

Roy Schneider – Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio

This week’s Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio features cartoonist Roy Schneider of The Humble Stumble! Here are his answers:

1) If you were to cast a movie entirely with cartoon characters, what movie would it be and who would star in it?

It would be a remake of The Marx Brothers’ “Horse Feathers,” and the cast would have to be as follows:

Groucho Marx: Bugs Bunny (as if there was any other possibility)
Chico Marx: Tony, the Italian restauranteur from Disney’s “Lady and the Tramp”
Harpo Marx: Joe from the comic strip “The Humble Stumble”
Zeppo Marx: Elmer Fudd… Absolutely
Ditzy College Widow: Betty Boop

2) You’re a syndicate editor launching a new comic strip. What’s the worst possible title you can think of?

“The Humble Stumble”

3) A light bulb over a cartoon’s head signifies an idea, while a string of random characters denotes swearing. Invent a new cartooning icon and what it means.

A slice of cheese over a cartoon character’s head, which would signify they’d like some cheese.

Thanks for the cheesy answers Roy! Check out The Humble Stumble!
