Toon Variety

Jerry Beck weighs in on the top ‘toons of the past 100 years for Variety today.

His list follows (in cowardly alphabetical order):

Bugs Bunny

Betty Boop

Felix the Cat

The Flintstones

Mr. Magoo

The Pink Panther

Popeye

Porky Pig

The Simpsons

Snoopy

Pretty good I’d say, although I’d pick Daffy over Porky any day.

Whatcha think? (Noting of course that Mickey Mouse is in the top 100 icons of all time.)

Cartoon Filth

The Parents Television Council’s president, L. Brent Bozell, had this to say about Fox’s Sunday night’s “family friendly” comedies:

“Families should not be deceived,” he said. “The top three worst shows all contain crude and raunchy dialogue with sex-themed jokes and foul language. Even worse is the fact that Hollywood is peddling its filth to families with cartoons.”

Bozell later clarified that he prefer parents peddle filth to their children themselves.

He also refused to comment on rumored photos of himself and Archie Comics’ Veronica “doing the Jughead.”

The Little Black Eyed Girl

OK, I’m not a huge fan of The Black Eyed Peas, but I gotta admit that singer/eye candy, Fergie, has gotten my attention.

So I was surprised to learn that as a girl she provided the voice of Sally Brown (2 years) and Lucy Van Pelt (1 year) for various Peanuts shows.

A quick search on IMDB reveals that she voiced Sally in 1984’s “It’s Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown,” and 1985’s “Snoopy’s Getting Married, Charlie Brown.”

Nothing popped up for her Lucy voice work, but I’m betting it’s the little-known Peanuts cult classic, “I’m Going To Grow Up Into a Hottie, Charlie Brown.”

Cartoon Network “Sponsors” Dodgeball Team

OK, it’s a stretch, but it’s my blog and I can publish what I like.

The IUSB Dodgeball Club got some free Adult Swim t-shirts from Cartoon Network, and recently won the outdoor championship in my own hometown, which they misspelled in this article.

Perhaps if IUSB concentrated less on pelting each other will rubber balls and more on spelling they could get more than t-shirts.
