What Does An Eraser Sound Like?

“The question was floated at a comic jam not long ago by a cartoonist who’d been slipped a panel to complete. It showed an artist rubbing himself out. Another Blast From My Cartoon Past – “Hackles”

Hackles

Here’s a strip I did about a year or so ago. Hopefully you notice the vast improvements over “Smart Alex” (Weeks 1, 2, 3 & 4 for those of you playing at home).

It revolves around a dog and his guy. Sort of like Mr. Peabody and Sherman without all the time travel and learning.

So here’s the first week of “Hackles!”

(Click on each strip to see the large versions.)

The State of the Strip

Thanks to Daku and Zampzon over at Digital Strips for the heads up on NPR’s recent look at contemporary comic strips and their creators.

(Look for “Strip Down?” about five down…)

Darby Conley, Hilary Price, Stephan Pastis and Patrick McDonnell chime in on older strips, the threat/promise of the internet and more.

It’s a great 7 minutes and 27 seconds for any comics fan.

(Thanks too to Ted Goff for the heads up on Digital Strips!)
