The Addams Family on DVD

Addams Gomez5

According to the Unofficial Addams Family site, The Addams Family TV shows should start coming out on DVD this October.

I know The Addams Family and The Munsters both came out in 1964, but the latter always felt like a cheap knock-off to me. The Addams Family seemed a little weirder, a little more dangerous, and, as far as I was concerned, a lot funnier.

Anyway, looks like another addition to my Christmas list…

My First Comics Convention

WizardWell, I’m taking the plunge.

I don’t think I’m quite ready for the big Comic-Con in San Diego (maybe next year), but tomorrow I’m going to the Wizard World Chicago just down the road a piece.

Not being much of a comic book guy, I’m paying close attention to Mark Evanier’s Convention Guide.

I also bought a few recent comic books (Marvel Civil War 1 & 2) and the latest Wizard magazine (it’s kinda like People for the comics nerd set) to help prepare me. Boy oh boy have comics changed since I was a kid.

Wish me luck, and expect lots of pic next week.

On My Desk: Andertoons Edition

There’s a neat blog called On My Desk where artists show you where they work.

And, lucky you, today you can look at my office/studio!

Regular readers have probably already seen some of this, but there’s a lot of really creative sloppy people with pics up over there too. What fun!

Here’s a sneak peek at my idea box:

Sam Cobean Online

AddamsdrawingOne of my favorite cartoonists is Sam Cobean. I discovered him a few years back and have since collected both of his books. (Sam’s career was tragically cut short by an automobile accident in 1951.)

In addition to being a New Yorker cartoonist, Cobean created ads for Ken-L-Ration and The Chicago Tribune, and worked as an in-betweener on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Cobean’s easy bold line, spare washes, and gentle humor speak to me and I was really pleased to find a nice collection of his work online at SamCobean.com.

Art 012

Like many sites of older overlooked cartoonists, the design is spare, but the art shines through. The best part is that many of Cobean’s originals are for sale!

It’s a great place to invest some time getting to know an artist I wish had had more time with us. Check it out!
