Frank Page – Inside the Cartoonist’s Studio

It’s that time again! This week’s contestant is Bob the Squirrel‘s Frank Page!

1) If you were to cast a movie entirely with cartoon characters, what movie would it be and who would star in it?

If I were to cast a movie entirely with cartoon characters it would definitely be Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” (a personal obsession of mine which I have to watch at least once a month whether I need to or not). The main characters would be re-cast as follows:

Robert De Niro (Jimmy Conway) – Yosemite Sam (because he has a dark side)

Ray Liotta (Henry Hill) – Aquaman (because he just needs a meaty part – I mean most bad stuff happens on land )

Joe Pesci (Tommy DeVito) – Hong Kong Fuey (just because he’s got that short thing going for him)

Lorraine Bracco (Karen Hill) – Betty Rubble (because she had me at hello)

Paul Sorvino (Paul Cicero) – Homer Simpson (I don’t care what anyone says – I think Homer has some Italian in him)

2) You’re a syndicate editor launching a new comic strip. What’s the worst possible title you can think of?

The WORST possible title I can think of is not rated PG-13 – but if I had to give an answer I would say: “I DRAW HORSIES”

3) A light bulb over a cartoon’s head signifies an idea, while a string of random characters denotes swearing. Invent a new cartooning icon and what it means.

I would draw George W. Bush’s head in a thought cloud – placed over a cartoon characters’s head it would signify that the character has absolutely no idea what he/she is talking about OR that the character is essentially clueless.

Thanks a bunch to cartoonist Frank Page for his wonderful responses! Now I can’t stop thinking of Hong Kong Fuey saying “Funny how?!”
